Not Creating in your Natural Habitat

Whether you’ve booked a professional photographer or videographer to create your photo and video content, or you’re doing it yourself, I can overstate how important it is that you create those visual elements in your natural environment.

When I’ve worked with professional women, entrepreneurial women or women who run their own businesses or coaching practices, one of the first questions I ask them is “Where?”.

The location of your shoot is important for so many reasons….

When you start integrating what’s true for you in your real life into the content that you’re creating and sharing online, the imposter syndrome evaporates, it begins to loosen its grip.

Not only is your location important for the aesthetic of your photos and videos, obviously….

Location, location, location…

  • Your location speaks volumes about your brand in terms of aesthetic appeal and general tone or ‘vibe’
  • Your location either confirms or contradicts your brand message and positioning
  • Your location is setting expectations for your audience before they’ve met you in person

Stop Feeding the Imposter

If you want the Imposter monster to leave you alone, you need to stop feeding it! Any woman who is hesitant about being active in the online space is dealing with imposter syndrome.

But how do you stop feeding the monster? Let me demonstrate with a story.

Here’s how I stopped feeding the imposter monster…

My own run-in with the Imposter Monster

There used to be a trend  on social media and online in general (I don’t know if it’s still a trend)  where the branding elements for female entrepreneurs, specifically coaches and marketing experts was all gold, white, and pink.

Because this was a space I had positioned myself in, I thought, “Well, that’s the IN thing and that’s what I should be doing.”

I followed that path, emulated what I saw other’s doing with their branding and visual content and I couldn’t understand why I felt so much like an imposter in this entrepreneur space. I felt like a fraud, I felt like I didn’t fit in and I began losing confidence in my abilities because it was taking up so much mental and emotional energy to keep my social media feeds fed. I was exhausted and unhappy.

That was because I was creating, and sharing content that was out of alignment.

Don’t get my wrong, I like that branding, it’s pretty, I can create it, and I can create it very well.

But it’s just not who I am.

And it was only when I started spending more time in my natural habitat, and creating content that’s inherently in alignment with who I am in real life, in line with my Explorer Archetype that I began feeling differently about the way I showed up in the online space .

When I finally did start making photos and videos that really liked, my little corner of the internet finally felt like me, my energy was wholly and completely injected in the content that I was creating and sharing.

It was only when I started coming to my natural habitat, coming to my natural environment, creating content that is inherently in alignment with who I am – with my Explorer Archetype – that I began feeling differently about the way I showed up in the online space.
